Catalonia faces a new heatwave that will push temperatures above 40 degrees, a situation that has led to the activation of the maximum alert level for forest fire risk in the Gironès region.

The arrival of a hot and dry air mass, driven by an anticyclonic ridge, has caused authorities to raise the fire danger to an extreme level. This weather situation, which is expected to last for the next few days, has forced the activation of Alfa Plan 4 in about twenty municipalities in the Gironès and Baix Empordà regions.
The maximum alert level includes restrictions on access to affected natural areas to prevent new fires. In addition, a hundred more municipalities are at level 3, representing a very high risk. Emergency services are maintaining special surveillance over forest areas given the forecast that Monday and Tuesday will be the days with the highest temperatures.

"Over the next four days we will have risk due to the heatwave, which will strengthen the sea breeze and increase the danger."

Concern is focused on the evolution of weather conditions, as the combination of wind, high temperatures, and the accumulated water deficit complicates prevention efforts. Meteorological authorities warn that the extent of the phenomenon still presents a high degree of uncertainty depending on the evolution of the atmospheric situation.
