This June 28th, the Baix Empordà and the wider Girona region are celebrating LGTBIQ+ Pride Day with various activities. In recent years, the collective's representation and reporting capacity have notably increased.
Victims of LGTBIQ+-phobia are increasingly reporting incidents of aggression or harassment. This trend is reflected in the number of reports filed with the Mossos d'Esquadra, according to the LGTBIQ+-Phobia Radiography in Catalonia and the 2024 SAI LGTBI Care Network study. In Catalonia, 37.5% of reported hate and discrimination incidents are linked to LGTBIQ+-phobia.
In the Girona region, the trend in reported incidents has been significant. While only 4 cases were recorded in 2018, the number rose to 36 in 2024.
Within the province, Gironès led the reported cases in 2024 with 15 incidents affecting 17 victims. This is followed by Selva (6 cases, 7 victims), Alt Empordà (5 incidents, 10 victims), Baix Empordà (4 cases, 5 victims), Cerdanya (3 cases, 8 victims), and Pla de l'Estany (2 incidents, 8 victims).
The Network of Integral Attention Services LGTBI (SAI LGTBI) has also received reports. Girona ranks as the third province with the most reports to the SAI LGTBI in 2024, totaling 13.
The Office for Equal Treatment and Non-Discrimination (OITND) also provides relevant data. In Catalonia, 56 reports were registered in 2024 concerning discrimination against the collective, of which 7 originated from the Girona vegueria.
At the Catalan level, the Mossos d'Esquadra recorded 305 incidents linked to LGTBIQ+-phobia. Of these, 179 relate to homophobia, 65 to transphobia, 36 to lesbophobia, and 25 to other related issues.
The reports cover various scenarios, including the exercise of fundamental rights (93 cases), injuries (45 minor), threats (30 minor, 21 general), degrading treatment (14), harassment (13), informational inquiries (13), discriminatory expressions (12), damages (10 minor), robbery with violence (6), and insults (5), among others.
In Catalonia, Barcelonès is the region with the highest number of reports (104 incidents, 111 victims), followed by Vallès Occidental (44 incidents, 61 victims), Gironès (15 incidents, 17 victims), and Baix Llobregat (13 incidents, 21 victims).
