Industrial ecologist Clara Mallart has published La vida secreta de la roba in Barcelona, a comic book designed to reveal the environmental and social consequences of the global fashion industry.

The textile sector is currently responsible for 8% of global CO₂ emissions, ranking as the fourth most impactful industry. Mallart's work highlights that every second, a truckload of clothing is incinerated or sent to landfills, while the average European consumer buys 16 kg of textiles annually.

"80% of a garment's environmental impact is decided during the design phase."

The book advocates for a shift towards eco-design and transparency. New European Union regulations, such as the upcoming digital product passport, aim to provide consumers with clear data on the environmental footprint of clothes, similar to energy labels on household appliances.
