The complaint focuses on an Instagram video where an individual expresses the intention to “hunt Moors” because they consider them “criminals.” The complainants describe this discourse as “criminal” due to its incitement to hatred and request that the perpetrators be identified and investigated.
During a press conference held this Tuesday in front of the Palau de Justícia de Girona, the organizations emphasized that the expressions in the video denigrate the Arab community and are clearly racist. They highlighted that no causal link can be established between the migrant population and crime. Furthermore, they warned about the widespread impact of the content on social media, where it has been shared by profiles with over 17,000 followers and reposted more than 1,200 times, which exacerbates the message's impact.
“"This greatly aggravates the impact of the phrase 'going out to hunt Moors,' and the number of views shows that there is a lot of racism behind it."
Beyond the complaint to the prosecutor's office, the organizations intend to appear as a popular prosecution in a potential criminal case to ensure that these racist statements do not go unpunished. Spokespersons reported that the complaint has already received support from some thirty organizations, including social and cultural entities, trade unions, and political parties. For its part, the city council has confirmed the filing of its own complaint, and the Generalitat, through the Office for Equal Treatment and Non-discrimination, has also acted ex officio, referring the case to the prosecutor's office specializing in hate crimes and discrimination.
At the same press conference, the organizations also took the opportunity to denounce "attacks by fascist groups" on the headquarters of the 24 de juny and Salvadora Catà athenaeums.
