A worker from the Cassà de la Selva Town Council, reinstated after a court ruling, has publicly denounced the existence of "irregular positions" and "favoritism" in the council's personnel management.

The events date back to September 2023, when the worker obtained a maintenance assistant position through a public competition. According to his account, even then he detected "principles that did not add up" in the call for applications.
Four months after joining, he took sick leave. Upon rejoining in June 2024 and requesting a reduction in working hours for family care, he was dismissed by "electronic notification," alleging he had not completed the two-month probationary period, even though eight months had passed.
The court declared the dismissal null and void due to discrimination based on illness, ordering his reinstatement. However, the worker claims that the position he had won had already been assigned to another person, and that the call for applications required a new offer through a competitive examination, which did not happen. This situation has led to a new complaint of "favoritism dynamics" and has resulted in two more favorable rulings obliging his reincorporation to the original position.

"All positions are filled in accordance with legality."

Before the dismissal, the worker had already observed "certain irregularities" and "preferences towards other people," feeling "somewhat sidelined." He describes being assigned the "hardest tasks" without adequate tools, suggesting it might have been a strategy to force his departure or non-compliance with the probationary period.
These concerns were communicated to the mayor through an instance that, according to the worker, "never received a response." Despite attempts to meet, there were only conversations via mobile messages, where he was given "the runaround" with the promise that "it would be resolved."
For their part, sources from the Cassà de la Selva Town Council have assured that "no irregular allocation has been made" and that "all positions are filled in accordance with legality." They added that the dismissal occurred for "objective reasons" and that the reinstatement was made under the condition of permanent employment, assigning him a position of the same category and functions as the one he won. The council explains that the original position was to cover a relief contract for partial retirement and that, after the dismissal, the job pool generated by the same selection process was used to comply with maintenance obligations.
