Officers located the couple at Colera train station, where they were carrying eight mobile phones, several bank cards, and personal belongings they could not account for. Five of the mobile devices have already been returned to their rightful owners.
The incidents began on June 14th, when a patrol from Girona's ARRO received a report of a theft on Colera beach. Upon identifying the couple at the station, two women approached the officers to report that their backpack with personal items and phones had been stolen while they were swimming. A witness had provided a description of one of the suspects.
“"They stole a backpack with personal items and our phones while we were swimming."
Subsequent investigations have linked three of the seized phones to previous reports of thefts committed on the beaches of Portbou and Colera between June 13th and 15th. The Mossos continue to work on identifying the owners of the remaining three phones.
The police remind the public of the importance of keeping the IMEI number of mobile phones (by dialing #06#), as well as the purchase receipt and serial number. They also advise protecting devices with a PIN, password, or an easily guessable unlock pattern.
