The province of Girona has experienced a significant shift in the automotive sector during the first half of 2026, with strong growth in sales of electric and hybrid vehicles.

Between January and June, 1,043 registrations of electric passenger cars and SUVs were recorded in the Girona region. This figure represents a 62.2% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data provided by the associations Anfac, Faconauto, and Ganvam.
The overall vehicle market in the province has also shown a positive trend, reaching a total of 7,629 registrations in the first half of the year, an increase of 17.6% compared to 2025. This growth rate exceeds that recorded in Catalonia as a whole, which stood at 12.7%.
Alternative technologies, including electric, plug-in hybrid, conventional hybrid, and gas models, have consolidated their dominant position. With 5,667 units sold, these vehicles now account for 74.3% of the Girona market. Thus, three out of every four new passenger cars registered in the province have moved away from exclusive reliance on gasoline or diesel.
Within this segment, conventional hybrids remain the preferred choice, with 3,485 units registered and a 28.3% growth. Conversely, diesel has seen a notable decline, reducing its share to 2.7% of total sales, while gasoline has experienced a 6.1% decrease.
