The investment, managed by the Department of Research and Universities, will be rolled out over the next four years with allocations of €28,226.00 in 2026, €162,589.53 in 2027, €2,292,677.52 in 2028, and €1,639,417.80 in 2029. This new scientific infrastructure, to be located at the former Falbar textile factory in Falset, aims to enhance the competitiveness of the Catalan wine sector.
The project, jointly promoted by the Department of Research and Universities, IRTA-CERCA (through VITEC), and the Falset City Council, will focus on digitalization, sustainability, and applied research. It is expected to have a direct impact on all Catalan Designation of Origin wines.
Spanning over 1,000 m², the new center will include an experimental winemaking room, chemical and microbiological laboratories, aging spaces, and advanced monitoring and data analysis systems. Furthermore, it is intended to serve as an open platform for collaboration with wineries, companies, and research centers for technological transfer.
