The Catalonia Railway Services Plan 2030-2040, presented by the Generalitat, establishes a network reorganization to guarantee a train every half hour between Maçanet and Figueres.

The main objective of the strategy is to increase system capacity to one million daily trips by 2040, a figure that would more than double the current 455,000 passengers. To achieve this, the document proposes restructuring Rodalies and Regional lines, as well as better schedule coordination at key stations.
In the Girona area, the project focuses on reformulating the RG1 line, which is set to branch towards Blanes and Sant Celoni. This improvement will be complemented by coordination with the R11 to ensure a 30-minute frequency on the section between Figueres and Maçanet-Massanes, including the deployment of international services to Perpignan.
The plan also defines four strategic terminal stations —Lleida, Sant Vicenç de Calders, Sants, and Maçanet-Massanes— where schedules will be coordinated so that transfers do not exceed five minutes. Furthermore, the creation of new long-term lines is planned, such as the R18, which will connect Girona with the capital of Roussillon.
