The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has prepared a special forecast for the eclipse, warning of the potential development of cloud cover in the afternoon in the eastern third of the peninsula, which could affect the Girona counties. The Girona Pyrenees are identified as the area with the highest risk of clouds and isolated showers, although they are expected to be of low intensity. The agency also reminds that high clouds will not necessarily prevent viewing the eclipse.
Regarding temperatures, intense heat is anticipated in the interior of the Girona province, with values potentially ranging between 32 and 36 degrees Celsius. Lower temperatures are expected along the coast and, especially, in the Pyrenees.
For its part, the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat) forecasts mostly stable weather in the Girona counties. However, an increase in cloudiness and slightly more uncertainty is expected as we approach the Pyrenees. According to Meteocat, the counties of Gironès, Pla de l’Estany, Baix Empordà, and coastal sectors would have better conditions for observing the eclipse, while Ripollès, Cerdanya, and possibly Garrotxa present a higher risk of cloud cover.
Forecasts for the city of Girona differ between the two agencies. Meteocat predicts clear skies, a high of 34 degrees Celsius, and a 4% chance of rain. In contrast, Aemet is more cautious, anticipating intervals of clouds during the afternoon and evening, with a 20% probability of precipitation and a maximum temperature that could reach 37 degrees Celsius. This discrepancy suggests that the visibility of the eclipse in Girona could be temporarily hindered by afternoon cloudiness, according to Aemet.
