The Regional Federation of ERC Girona organized a meeting this Saturday in Salt focused on housing policies. The event brought together candidates for the upcoming municipal elections, as well as mayors and councilors from the district. The main objective was to exchange management experiences and highlight the model implemented in the municipality of Salt, with the intention that its practices could be adopted by other towns.
The conference combined political debate with a detailed technical explanation of the measures applied in Salt, culminating in a visit to a social housing unit. Participants underscored the importance of providing local councils with more tools to intervene in an increasingly strained housing market.
“"Salt is a clear example of a municipality that puts people at the center and a success story throughout Catalonia regarding social housing."
In this regard, a proposal was presented to expand the cases in which IBI surcharges can be applied, with the aim of giving more instruments to local councils. This measure focuses on large property owners, tourist-use housing, and large investment operations, without penalizing small owners. Local representatives emphasized the need for these tools to deepen municipal housing policies and recalled that Salt has been working for years to mobilize flats and guarantee access to them.
With this conference, the political party aimed to advocate for a more active role of local councils in housing management and a taxation system better adjusted to the reality of each municipality.
