The new cultural space will be located in an area near Parc de les Aigües, specifically between Rec Arnau, Costa Brava avenue, and Cadaqués street. This long-awaited project has an estimated investment of 14.8 million euros, funded jointly by the City Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya, and the Diputació de Girona.
With an approximate built area of 5,200 square meters, the facility aims to become a new hub for cultural attraction while also contributing to the urban development of the northern part of the city. The design will include common areas, multipurpose rooms, the new library, and the regional and municipal archive facilities.
The tender to select the architectural proposal has been launched with a budget of 684,446 euros for the project's tender, rising to 1,058,283 euros if future site supervision is included. The process will unfold in two phases and involve a jury responsible for evaluating the proposals from technical, architectural, and environmental perspectives.
The winning team will be responsible for drafting the basic and executive project, as well as the site supervision. The municipal objective is to have both the tender and the project drafting completed by October 2027. This project is being carried out with the support and coordination of the Generalitat and the Diputació de Girona.
This new facility will replace and expand the current premises, which the City Council deems insufficient given the existing demand and the projected growth of documentary collections. Currently, the Fages de Climent Library operates in Plaça del Sol, while the Alt Empordà Regional Archive is housed in part of the old municipal slaughterhouse, and the Municipal Archive occupies spaces in the former library on Ample street.
