Citizen demonstration in Girona demanding compliance with the feline colony law.

Dozens of people gathered on Sunday in Girona's Plaça del Vi to demand that city councils comply with the feline colony management law.

Feline colony managers, feeders, rescuers, activists, and citizens involved in cat care demonstrated across Spain to demand compliance with municipal regulations. In Girona, the gathering took place in the Plaça del Vi, in front of the City Hall, to highlight that volunteer efforts alone cannot bear the burden of managing these spaces.
The collective calls for responsibility in ensuring sterilization, veterinary care, regulated feeding, and continuous monitoring of the animals. They recall that Law 7/2023 obliges local authorities to provide sufficient resources, although they report that effective implementation remains "insufficient" in many municipalities.

"Municipalities must provide sufficient resources and fulfill the obligations established by law."

The advocacy for ethical management of community cats is based on the idea that "protecting community cats means protecting coexistence," thereby benefiting the animals, citizens, and municipalities.
