The city of Girona began distributing air quality sensors to 200 households this Wednesday as part of a major study on indoor environmental health risks.

The initiative, known as Girostudi, is led by the Girona Provincial Council through Dipsalut. It aims to detect pollutants from cleaning products, fabrics, and furniture that accumulate inside residential buildings.

"We breathe indoor air for many more hours than outdoor air, yet this has hardly been studied."

Maria Puig · Director of Dipsalut
This research is part of a decade-long study tracking 4,000 residents. Scientific partners include the CSIC and the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA), positioning the region as a hub for European population health projects.
