The Girona region has successfully completed the first two months of 2026 without recording a single road traffic fatality, making it the only area in Catalonia to achieve this safety milestone.

According to data from the Catalan Transit Service, Girona stands out against the general trend in Catalonia, where 13 people have died in 13 fatal accidents until the end of February. This overall figure represents a 40% decrease compared to the previous year.
The statistics highlight a significant impact on vulnerable groups. Motorcyclists account for nearly half of the victims, with seven fatalities. Additionally, one cyclist and one pedestrian have lost their lives on Catalan roads during this period.
While Barcelona recorded eight deaths, Tarragona three, and Lleida two, Girona has maintained a zero balance. Authorities have noted that most fatal accidents occurred during weekend afternoons, primarily involving lane departures or head-on collisions.
