The Girona City Council will launch emergency construction works next week at Plaça de Catalunya to strengthen its underground structure, with completion expected by June.

The project targets approximately 100 concrete beams showing signs of wear and oxidation. Budgeted between 300,000 and 450,000 euros, the intervention aims to maintain the square's safety while keeping the surface operational for regular use.

"The square is safe and the work is being brought forward to prevent further deterioration."

Starting Monday, February 23, the L6 bus line will be diverted through Ultònia street and past the Mercat del Lleó. New stops will be established at Gran Via de Jaume I, while the square remains open to pedestrian and vehicle traffic during the structural reinforcement.
