Greenways Marathon achieves historic participation record

The thirteenth edition of the race, connecting Girona and Platja d'Aro, has seen a 30% increase in registered participants.

The Greenways Marathon, which follows the route of the Carrilet between Girona and Platja d'Aro, celebrated its thirteenth edition with a record participation of 3,500 athletes, a 30% increase from the previous year.

This popular event, organized by the Stat Sport Triathlon and Athletics Club, is distinguished by having different start and finish points in various municipalities, offering several distances to suit all levels of runners.
In addition to the full 42-kilometer marathon, participants could choose between 30, 21, and 10-kilometer routes. All modalities concluded in Platja d'Aro, with starts from Girona for the marathon, Cassà de la Selva for the 30 km, Llagostera for the 21 km, and Santa Cristina d'Aro for the 10 km.

The race management highlighted the event's consolidation and the significant increase in participants. The project originated from an initiative by the Greenways Consortium, taking advantage of the privileged Carrilet route, which combines mountain and sea landscapes.
In the competitive aspect, the marathon winners were Manel Cabanillas in the men's category and Laia López de Letona Solé in the women's category. Other winners included Dani Bordallo and Laura Figueiredo (30 km), Marc Merino and Júlia Robitaille (21 km), and Arnau Aranda and Maelys Poupet (10 km).
The event received support from the municipalities of Castell d'Aro, Platja d'Aro and S'Agaró, Girona, Llambilles, Quart, Cassà de la Selva, Llagostera, and Santa Cristina d'Aro, as well as the Diputació de Girona, the Greenways Consortium, and Costa Brava Pirineu de Girona.
