Bridges over the Güell river in Girona with damage.

The rehabilitation works for the bridges over the Güell river in Girona have been halted since late January due to the discovery of more damaged wooden planks than initially expected.

The rehabilitation works for two pedestrian bridges connecting the neighborhoods of Sant Narcís and Can Gibert del Pla over the Güell river in Girona are currently stopped. The project, which began at the end of January, has been delayed by the detection of "more damaged wooden planks" than initially foreseen.
Girona City Council is processing a contract modification to repair these elements and ensure the infrastructure is "fully safe and accessible". This contractual amendment could lead to an increase in the initial price, which was 164,345.95 euros awarded to Rehabilitacions Pons SL.
The bridges were partially closed in late April 2024 by the Municipal Police due to their poor condition, with raised planks and inoperative screws, which had led to resident complaints. Currently, only one passage is enabled on one of the bridges, while the other remains completely closed.
In early May, a worker was seriously injured after falling about four meters while working on the rehabilitation of one of the structures, possibly due to a wooden plank giving way.
