The award, announced during the central event of the Talent Tour held in Sant Boi de Llobregat in the presence of H. M. the King, recognizes Azahri's trajectory in transforming situations of inequality into collective actions and community building processes.
Born in Nador (Morocco) in 1998 and raised since the age of two in the Poble-sec neighborhood of Barcelona, Azahri holds a higher degree in Social Integration and is currently studying Social Work at the University of Barcelona. His life experience as a young migrant has been key to his professional path.
“"Let's ask for the name, look into each other's eyes, recognize the people we see every day. Let's generate bonds, let's generate hope, let's generate community."
In 2019, Azahri founded the non-profit youth association Joves Units del Poble-sec, which works with young people at risk of exclusion through community sports and the creation of safe spaces. Notable projects include the improvement of the Jardins de les Tres Xemeneies and the creation of the first popular gym in Poble-sec.
The jury also recognized other finalists, including Pol Ricart Gallardo, a doctor and social entrepreneur from Castell d'Aro (Girona), along with Diana de Arias Far, Natalia Rodríguez Núñez-Milara, and Mateo Nicolás Salvatto Canle. The Princess of Girona Social Award is endowed with 20,000 euros and aims to promote projects with tangible social impact.
