Investigation Launched into Assault on Disabled Youth in Girona

The Mossos d'Esquadra have launched an investigation to identify a group of young people who assaulted a young man with an intellectual disability on Saturday night in Girona, causing injuries that required stitches.

The incident occurred around 10:30 PM, as the victim was heading towards the train station from the Can Gibert neighborhood. According to his testimony, a group of four to six young individuals, with their faces covered, approached him and repeatedly struck him, mainly on the head and face, resulting in a lip injury.
The young man managed to reach the Girona train station, where security guards found him disoriented and injured in the restrooms. After explaining what had happened, the guards alerted the Mossos d'Esquadra. The victim's father and several police patrols arrived at the scene to take his statement.
Subsequently, the young man was taken to the Centre d'Urgències d'Atenció Primària (CUAP) Güell in La Devesa, where his lip wound was sutured. On Sunday afternoon, the family filed a formal complaint regarding the incident.
The Investigation Unit (UI) of the Girona police station has opened an investigation into an alleged crime of assault. Officers are searching for surveillance camera footage from nearby businesses that may have captured the assault or its perpetrators, as well as potential witnesses to the events to clarify exactly what transpired.
