The city of Girona mourned this Friday the passing of Jordi Araus, an emblematic figure of the GEiEG sports club and owner of the historic Joguines Araus shop.

Jordi Araus passed away at 83 years old, leaving a legacy of sports discipline and civic commitment. Trained at the Devesa pools, he was a pioneer of local swimming under Pipe Sánchez Babot.

"Jordi was not just a veteran swimmer; he was the living expression of the culture of effort that has guided generations."

Francesc Cayuela · GEiEG President
Beyond sports, Araus was a key figure in Girona's traditions, such as the Tarlà festivities. He continued his daily 1,000-meter swimming routine at Sant Ponç until his final days.
