The Contentious-Administrative Court number 2 of Girona accepted the request of Vox councilor Xavier Domínguez, compelling the City Council to place the portrait of King Felipe VI in a pre-eminent spot in the plenary hall.

The judicial decision comes after Domínguez filed a complaint alleging that the council had not complied with sentence 54/2025, which already mandated hanging the image or a bust of the Spanish monarch in a preferred location.

The institutional image must be in a pre-eminent place, preferably near the council table.

The judge maintains that the previous placement of the portrait, on a side wall and accompanied by photographs of the October 1, 2017, referendum, did not meet the requirement of preference.
The Girona City Council, led by Mayor Lluc Salellas, now has one month to comply with the court's resolution. Notably, in the ordinary plenary session held this afternoon, the image of Felipe VI that had been placed last September was no longer present.
