The party Junts could announce mid-morning its decision to break the tripartite pact in Girona City Council, leaving the government eleven months before the municipal elections. The leader of Junts and until now deputy mayor, Gemma Geis, has called a press conference for 11:30 AM where this break is expected to be made public.
The departure of Junts councillors would leave the municipal government led by Lluc Salellas in the minority. The current executive, formed by Guanyem, ERC, and Junts, would not reach an absolute majority without the support of Junts councillors.
The break has been brewing since Sunday, following an article published by Gemma Geis in El Punt Avui. In the piece, she openly criticized her government partners and advocated for Junts's own project. Although she did not explicitly announce the break or rule out the continuation of the agreement after the elections, the article already made it clear that the party wanted to chart its own course.
This article set the tone for yesterday's municipal plenary session, where the possibility of a break was a recurring theme. Opposition councillors, such as those from the PSC and the PP, directly asked Geis if she intended to break the government pact.
