Bàsquet Girona was defeated at Fontajau 85-96 by Baskonia on Sunday, January 11, 2026, after failing to capitalize on their chances due to poor shooting accuracy in the decisive final stretch.

Despite a dreadful start that saw the home team concede a 4-17 run, the squad led by coach Moncho Fernández showed great resilience. The comeback was a collective effort, allowing Bàsquet Girona to reach halftime with a close score (41-42), keeping their hopes of victory alive at Fontajau.
The reaction began slowly after the initial timeout, with players like Sergi Martínez and Geben providing key points. Later, Needham and Maric kept the team afloat, before Hughes put the hosts ahead for the first time (40-39). However, the quality of Baskonia, featuring decisive actions from Luwawu-Cabarrot, prevented Girona from pulling away.
The third period was a constant exchange of blows, with Otis hitting two consecutive three-pointers and replies from Susinskas, Hughes, and Geben keeping the game open (66-67). But with everything on the line in the final quarter, accuracy abandoned the home side, who conceded a 19-29 run.

The strength failed at the most inopportune moment; a final quarter in which accuracy abandoned Moncho Fernández's team, while the three-pointers by Kurucs and Frisch did significant damage.

The failure to secure rebounds in key plays and a poor percentage in outside shooting were determining factors. Although Livingston (16 points) and Hughes (13 points) were the top scorers for Girona, the team records its second consecutive home defeat, once again allowing opponents to score over 90 points.
