This initiative, driven by the university's International Office as part of the #UdGGlobal strategy, aims to strengthen the campus's international dimension and offer the university community an academic, social, and cultural approach to a specific country. Over two weeks, the UdG has scheduled academic sessions, institutional meetings, cultural activities, and permanent proposals, using in-person, online, and hybrid formats to ensure broad participation.
The Guest Country Week has become a fundamental tool for the university to promote intercultural dialogue, institutional cooperation, and the establishment of lasting international ties. The choice of Bulgaria also reflects the desire to highlight the connections forged within the European university alliance ACROSS, of which the UdG is a member.
In this context, the University of Ruse, a partner in the alliance, will play a prominent role in the program of activities and in various exchange and cooperation actions with the Girona university community. One of the significant aspects of this edition is the visit of representatives from the Bulgarian university to the UdG's International Office, with an agenda focused on strengthening European inter-university relations. The program is primarily aimed at students, faculty, and technical, management, and administrative staff, seeking to create spaces for debate and exchange of experiences regarding the Bulgarian academic and institutional context.
Activities will include conferences and presentations on Bulgaria's university system, European academic cooperation, the country's language, culture, history, politics, and geopolitics. Institutional dialogue spaces have also been planned to share best practices among partner universities. The closing event will take place on Thursday, May 7, in the afternoon with a Bulgarian music and dance workshop, involving students and representatives linked to the University of Ruse.
“"This proposal allows for the integration of academic, cultural, and strategic dimensions of university internationalization into a single activity, strengthening the connection between local university life and European cooperation networks."
In this edition, the content has been developed in collaboration with the heads of the Global Studies degree at the Faculty of Tourism, making the Guest Country Week one of the two Global Weeks of the second semester.
