The artist Jordi Puig (Barcelona, 1963) presents his series of «frozen flowers» in a cultural space near the Girona Cathedral. This exhibition follows the line of Puig's previous works, who already showcased his particular vision of the world at the Sala l’Escorxador in Figueres.
Puig's proposal is characterized by a systematic and iconoclastic gaze, far removed from the paradigms of purity often pursued by other artists. His work focuses on flat, sharp colors, often associated with everyday objects, discreet and anonymous.
“"The only pure thing is the color of plastic."
The artist usually works on long-term projects, with series that seek to bring clarity through repetition. His intention is not to illustrate an idea with images, but to use images as a path to reach the idea, prioritizing the process of visual navigation.
Puig's exhibition, which coincides with the Temps de Flors period in Girona, offers a different perspective on floral beauty. Photographing flowers implies detailed observation, a practice already highlighted by figures such as Carl Georg Heise and Walter Benjamin in the context of botanical photography.
Jordi Puig freezes flowers, emulating cryogenics, but without the promise of resurrection. His work underscores the reality of transience, which prevails over the impossible desire to preserve beauty, with the exception of the "miracle" represented by the photographic image.
