A Girona court has ordered the provisional detention without bail of a 26-year-old man arrested for a violent assault against a homeless person last weekend.

The suspect appeared in court this Tuesday morning facing charges of attempted murder and assaulting police officers. The incident took place on Sunday morning in the Can Gibert del Pla district, specifically near the Olot promenade.
According to witnesses, the assailant chased the victim, knocked him to the ground, and repeatedly kicked and punched him. The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested the man at the scene after he allegedly attempted to flee and confronted the officers.
The victim remains in critical condition at the Josep Trueta University Hospital intensive care unit. Medical sources state he is currently stable but in serious condition with a guarded prognosis. Local residents have organized protests for Tuesday afternoon to condemn the violence.
