Since their installation approximately a year ago, the four fixed speed cameras located at key points in Girona have issued an average of 112 speeding fines per day. In total, 41,068 sanctions have been recorded since August 2025.
These devices are situated on Barcelona street, Riu Güell, Pedret, and Josep Tarradellas avenue, in front of the Maristes school. According to the Councilor for Coexistence and Security, Sílvia Aliu, improvements in traffic flow and resident safety have been observed.
The data indicates a general downward trend in violations, with 61.6% of sanctions issued between August 13 and December 31, 2025. This suggests that drivers have adjusted their speed after receiving initial fines. Financial penalties range from 100 to 600 euros, depending on the severity of the speeding.
The camera on Josep Tarradellas avenue, near the Maristes school, has issued the most fines, with 22,309 vehicles sanctioned, accounting for 54.3% of the total. Of these, 11,998 were issued between August and December 2025, and 10,311 between January and July of this year. The councilor emphasized the need for vigilance on this avenue, particularly due to its proximity to the educational center, where the speed limit is 40 km/h.
At the radar in the Pedret neighborhood, initially set at 30 km/h, the limit was recently raised to 40 km/h, following a request from residents. This measure has helped reduce sanctions in the area, according to Aliu, improving the quality of life for pedestrians. It is noted that the municipal police have previously detected motorcycles exceeding 100 km/h on this same road, justifying the need to calm traffic.
Regarding the low-emission zone (ZBE), since its implementation on September 15 last year, 1,800 fines have been issued to vehicles without the appropriate environmental sticker that have driven within the ZBE's surrounding streets during restricted hours. The councilor is confident that the number of sanctions will decrease as drivers adapt to the regulations.
