The last quarter of 2025 was marked by a series of aggravated burglaries in homes across several municipalities in Gironès, including Quart, Madremanya, Sant Martí Vell, Juià, Celrà, Sarrià de Ter, Sant Jordi Desvalls, and Flaçà. The thieves often carried out multiple assaults within hours, typically acting in the late afternoon and evening.
To counteract this situation, the Mossos d’Esquadra activated the Specific Operational Plan (POE) for housing across the entire Girona Police Region, with special reinforcement in Gironès, Alt Empordà, and Baix Empordà. This pressure, which includes increased ARRO controls on roads and entry points, has led to a downward trend in burglaries during 2026.
Home burglaries remain the main concern in the Girona Police Region, despite the downward trend at the start of this year.
The case of Quart is significant, as many affected municipalities are small and lack a local security force. In Quart, aggravated burglaries rose from 16 to 19 between 2024 and 2025, doubling between October and December. Mayor Ferran Rodero attended an informational session where residents voiced their concerns and demanded a municipal security force.
During the informational session at the Quart Town Hall, officers stressed the importance of citizen collaboration, urging residents to immediately call 112 if they notice suspicious movements. The license plate reader cameras in Quart, which are accessible to the Mossos d’Esquadra, are a valuable tool for investigators.
