Clothing vendors in Roses gathered this Monday, February 23, at the Town Hall to protest against a new public tender for market stalls that they claim threatens their livelihoods.

The local government has launched a process to reassign 104 stalls as current licenses expire in October 2025. Vendors argue that new criteria, including points for academic background, are classist and ignore the decades of experience held by traditional merchant families.

"We feel defenseless against the administration. There are families who only depend on the market to bring bread home."

Jessica Ibarzo · Vendors' representative
Economic Promotion Councilor Fèlix Llorens defended the plan, stating it aims to professionalize the sector and ensure the market remains a sustainable public service for the next 15 years, preventing oversupply and price wars.
