The Quart City Council has approved a one-year suspension of activity licenses on the Girona road to develop a new Special Urban Plan aimed at organizing commercial growth.

The measure, ratified during a plenary session at the Miquel Pairolí Library, was supported by the governing coalition of Gent de Quart and PSC. The primary goal is to manage a recent surge in applications and establish clearer criteria than those in the 2022 POUM.

"Given the recent proliferation of requests, the council considered it necessary to develop a specific urban instrument to regulate uses with more detail."

This moratorium specifically targets retail establishments under 800 square meters selling food, beverages, or tobacco. Additionally, the suspension covers any activities related to the cultivation or distribution of cannabis.
However, traditional personalized shops are exempt from the measure. Consequently, butchers, fishmongers, bakeries, and wine shops can continue their licensing processes without being affected by this temporary regulation.
