The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat) has issued severe weather warnings for several counties, including Ripollès, Cerdanya, and Garrotxa. Later, the warning was extended to Selva, Pla de l'Estany, and Gironès, cautioning about possible intense storms with hail over 2 cm, wind gusts exceeding 90 km/h, squalls, and even tornadoes.
Civil Protection has called for extreme caution, especially with outdoor activities and vehicle travel, due to the forecast of heavy rainfall affecting almost all of Catalonia this Thursday. People have been advised to avoid crossing riverbeds.
Despite the severity of the situation, the Deputy Director of Coordination and Emergency Management, Imma Solé, stated that an ES-Alert will not be sent to the public for now, although it is not ruled out if a shower becomes stationary. Meteocat predicts rainfall intensities that could exceed 40 liters per square meter in 30 minutes and over 90 liters in three hours in some areas.
Santi Segalà, head of Meteocat's Prediction Area, explained that the rainfall will move slowly throughout Thursday, extending the episode until night. Unlike other storms concentrated in the Pyrenees, these could reach coastal areas of Girona and Barcelona during the afternoon, and even the coast of Tarragona from the evening onwards.
