Mamadou Nomoko, a 52-year-old homeless man who was brutally assaulted last Sunday in the Can Gibert neighborhood of Girona, remains in stable but serious condition at the Josep Trueta Hospital.

His cousin, Mamou Nomoko, traveled from Madrid to visit him after nearly twenty years apart. Mamadou arrived in Spain from Mali in 2006, initially working in agriculture in Albacete before moving to Girona in 2012, where he eventually began living on the streets.

"He was a peaceful, quiet, and very independent person who wanted to go unnoticed."
