Bàsquet Girona secured a crucial 71-74 victory at the Palau Olímpic de Badalona against Joventut on Monday, January 19, successfully ending their two-game losing streak in the ACB league.

This victory is particularly significant as the Palau Olímpic, the Penya's stronghold, had only seen the league leader, Real Madrid, win there until this date. The Girona team, playing without Maxi Fjellerup and Pepe Vildoza, delivered a solid performance despite poor three-point shooting (10/34).
The game was generally low-scoring and strange in front of 7,023 spectators, but Joventut performed significantly worse from beyond the arc (4/28, 14%). Furthermore, the green-and-blacks committed 20 turnovers and conceded 14 offensive rebounds, giving Moncho Fernández's team constant second-chance opportunities.
Guard Ricky Rubio, who was doubtful due to physical discomfort, had to enter the court earlier than planned. Although Joventut trailed throughout the match, they had the final possession to force overtime, but Ricky missed the decisive three-pointer, confirming Bàsquet Girona's successful raid.
In related news, Àlex Formento, co-founder of Bàsquet Girona and friend of Marc Gasol, has accepted an offer to become the assistant coach to former Penya coach Carles Duran at the Turkish team Mersin.
