Cáritas Diocesana de Girona has opened the Niu Flat, a new residential resource in the Old Quarter for recently arrived migrant youth over 18 who are homeless and in an irregular situation.

The project, called Som Refugi, is part of the organization's housing and homelessness program. The property, located in Girona, was ceded to Cáritas by the Jesuits of Catalonia for a period of ten years.

"We want to offer the tools to each young person to know how to develop within the educational system or the world of work and the scope of daily life, and to accompany them day by day, helping them work on autonomy."

The main objective of the residential support is to serve as “the entry door to a complete inclusion itinerary,” helping residents develop in educational, professional, and daily life spheres.
The Som Refugi program receives funding from the Generalitat de Catalunya and Cáritas Española. Referrals for young people to the flat are managed through the Girona City Council, the Gironès-Salt Social Welfare Consortium, and Cáritas itself.
