The figure of 1,356 transplants performed in Catalonia in 2025 represents an increase of 0.8% compared to the previous year. This data positions the autonomous community as a world leader in the transplant rate per million inhabitants (167), surpassing the United States (136) and the Spanish average (132.8). Kidney transplants were the majority (945), followed by liver (206) and lung (110).

Despite the overall success, the OCATT has expressed concern about the increase in family refusals for donation, which reached 27.6% of the interviews conducted. 77% of these refusals were due to the prior refusal of the donor or the family. Regarding centers, Vall d’Hebron Hospital led the interventions (387), while the Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona stood out as the non-transplanting center with the most donors (42).
Pediatric transplants experienced a significant reduction, dropping from 54 to 36, a fact that the director of the OCATT, Jaume Tort, attributes to improved prior treatments and the lack of a waiting list. Furthermore, living donor donation grew by 1.8% (174 cases), all of them renal, consolidating Catalonia as responsible for almost half of these transplants in Spain.
