The Departament d'Educació (Education Department) rejected the proposal by the subsidized school FEDAC Pont Major in Girona to create an institute-school with the public center Carme Auguet, despite the loss of ESO provision in the neighborhood.
The subsidized school FEDAC Pont Major presented a project to establish a public-private collaboration with the public school Carme Auguet. The goal was to guarantee educational continuity from I3 (3-year-olds) up to ESO (Secondary Education) in the Pont Major neighborhood, especially after the Narcís Xifra institute is converted into a center of excellence for Vocational Training.
“
"it would guarantee the consolidation of educational continuity in the neighborhood, offering children stability from entering nursery school until the end of the ESO stage"
Currently, students from Pont Major must travel to institutes such as Jaume Vicens Vives or Carles Rahola, which creates logistical problems for many families. The FEDAC proposal envisioned the subsidized center hosting nursery and primary education, and Carme Auguet hosting the secondary institute.
“
"Many families, due to logistical issues, cannot take them; there are 11-year-old children who have to take the bus here, transfer at Correus, and take another bus to reach the institute"
In addition to rejecting the institute-school proposal, the Departament d'Educació notified FEDAC Pont Major last week of the withdrawal of the I3 subsidy due to not meeting the minimum requirement of 14 students per group (they currently have 9). This decision comes amid concerns about the distribution of vulnerable students.
“
"With the non-renewal of the subsidy at FEDAC Pont Major, the Departament d'Educació hinders the distribution of NESE B students who will leave the privatization of Bell-lloc and Les Alzines."
