The Local Economic Promotion and Development Service of the Diputació de Girona has published its seventh Socio-economic Report of the Girona demarcation, analyzing the economic, demographic, and social evolution of the territory during 2025. The main conclusion is the improvement of the labor market, with an unemployment rate that has fallen again to 7.5% and 352,795 employed individuals, a 1.9% increase from the previous year.
Particularly noteworthy is the 4.5% growth in Social Security affiliations for those under 30 years old, now totaling 63,730 employed (18.1% of the total), consolidating a positive trend since 2022. This dynamism is reflected in the increase of jobs across all Girona comarques, with notable growth in the service sector (+2.1%), construction, and industry (+2% each).
Despite the healthy labor market, the number of companies in the demarcation experienced a slight decrease of 0.2% in 2025, standing at 28,035. Industry (-1.8%) and agriculture (-1.9%) saw the most significant declines, while the service sector remained stable. The business fabric continues to be dominated by micro and small enterprises, accounting for 97.1% of the total.
Regarding demographics, the Girona comarques reached 830,429 inhabitants on January 1, 2025, a 1.1% increase from the previous year, driven by the rise in the foreign population (21.9%). This marks the tenth consecutive year of demographic growth, with projections indicating close to one million inhabitants by 2049.
The report also details the comarcal economic evolution, with Gironès concentrating 26.8% of Social Security contributions. Furthermore, it analyzes the situation of local entities, which reduced their debt by 6.9% and increased their budgets.
