According to data provided by the electric company Endesa, the number of social bonus beneficiaries in the Girona region has experienced a 96% increase from 2020 until the close of the 2025 fiscal year. This record figure, amounting to 14,607 families, solidifies the aid as an essential protection mechanism for the most vulnerable groups.
The growth has been particularly notable between 2022 and 2023, when the number of households with the social bonus rose from 9,943 to 12,655, adding over 2,700 new beneficiaries in just twelve months. This period registered the highest year-on-year increase, although growth has continued steadily throughout 2024 and 2025.
The social bonus is consolidated as a key protection mechanism for vulnerable groups in the Girona counties.
The social bonus is a direct discount applied to the electricity bill, reducing the cost between 42.5% and 57.5% on the voluntary price for the small consumer (PVPC). Currently, nearly 6,200 families in Girona are considered vulnerable (42.5% reduction), while more than 8,400 are severely vulnerable (57.5% reduction).
Regarding the typology of beneficiaries, 52.9% qualify for the social bonus based on income criteria. Large and single-parent families account for 42.3% of the total, while pensioners and beneficiaries of the minimum vital income (IMV) make up 2.6% and 2.2% respectively.
