The new facility, located in the Avellaneda industrial area, covers nearly 1,500 square meters and offers 1,200 direct-sale products from the Swedish brand. This project involved an investment of five million euros and the creation of sixty jobs, most of which are filled by residents from the Girona regions.
The establishment, situated opposite Leroy Merlin in a previously unused warehouse, also includes a 90-square-meter dining area called Swedish Bite, designed to bring Nordic cuisine closer to customers.

To encourage attendance, Ikea offered prizes to the first customers: the first received 300 euros to redeem, while the second and third received a 100 euro voucher. Additionally, the first hundred visitors received gifts. The prior promotional campaign featured a teddy bear holding a lamp, simulating the popular local monument, the Cul de la Lleona.
Coinciding with the opening, Ikea also inaugurated a new collection point in Vilablareix, on Ciurana de Güell street, just five minutes from the main store. This move will lead to the closure of the former planning and collection points located in central Girona, with the fifteen workers relocated to the new facilities in Avellaneda and Vilablareix.
