The governing coalition (Guanyem, Junts, and ERC) passed the budget, which grows by 3%, despite criticism from PSC and Vox regarding tax pressure.

The Girona City Council initially approved the €170 million budget for 2026 during an extraordinary plenary session held on Tuesday, relying solely on the votes of the ruling coalition.

The initial approval of the 2026 budget was carried out with the votes in favor of the governing team formed by Guanyem, Junts, and ERC, repeating the scenario of the previous two years. The municipal accounts amount to €170 million, a 3% growth compared to 2025, and allocate €8.9 million to key investments for the city.

"It is a solid, complete, and coherent budget to make Girona a more friendly, safe, habitable, and lively city."

Among the highlighted investments, Deputy Mayor Sílvia Aliu emphasized that 2026 "will be the year of investments" to facilitate mobility. €1.4 million is allocated to sports facilities (such as covering the Fontajau court) and €1.3 million to mobility, including the remodeling of Plaça Catalunya and the reform of Carrer de la Creu. Furthermore, security receives an increase of almost 10%, with €232,515 designated for cameras and vehicles for the Municipal Police.
The opposition strongly criticized the proposal. Vox councilor Francisco Javier Domínguez warned that the budget "consolidates a policy of greater fiscal and collection pressure on Girona residents without a proportional return." For her part, PSC spokesperson Bea Esporrín regretted that the accounts arrived "late" and presented "serious deficiencies," predicting a pattern of constant budgetary modifications.

"This is a continuationist budget without any exciting project, which is done without improving services."
