Furthermore, the plenary session has approved two budgetary modifications totaling 525,000 euros to address damages caused by the floods in early October to the greenway network across Girona's counties. These actions will be funded by treasury reserves.
Of this amount, 225,000 euros will be a direct subsidy to the Consorci de les Vies Verdes de Girona (Girona Greenway Consortium) for improvements to affected sections, while the Consortium has processed an extraordinary credit of 300,000 euros for urgent interventions.
The exceptional rainfall episode on October 3rd and 4th, 2026, caused significant river overflows and affected various infrastructures, with rainfall accumulations exceeding 90 liters per square meter in municipalities such as Castell d'Aro and Cassà de la Selva.
The priority actions include repairing damages, restoring safety conditions for users of the cycle tourism and daily mobility routes, and preventing the detected erosion and damage from worsening in the face of future rainfall, thereby ensuring the continuity of this key infrastructure for sustainable mobility and tourism in Girona's counties.
