An intense cold wave caused a dramatic drop in temperatures across the Girona regions on the morning of Wednesday, January 7, 2026, with readings falling as low as -13.7 ºC in the Cerdanya area.

The drop in figures was widespread, exceeding typical seasonal records. The town of Das, in Cerdanya, marked the absolute minimum at -13.7 ºC, closely followed by Puigcerdà with -10.6 ºC.

Most regional capitals recorded sub-zero temperatures, confirming the intensity of the polar cold episode affecting the territory.

In the capital of Gironès, the city of Girona, the thermometer dropped to -7.2 ºC. Other notable points include Sant Pau de Segúries (Ripollès) with -8.5 ºC and Olot (Garrotxa) with -6.9 ºC.
The cold wave has not only affected the Girona regions. In the rest of Catalonia, extreme readings were observed, such as -11.3 ºC in Viella in the Vall d’Aran. Even in the Barcelona metropolitan area, the Fabra Observatory reached -1.8 ºC, with towns like Badalona and l’Hospitalet de Llobregat nearing zero.
