The Minister of Territory, Housing, and Ecological Transition, Sílvia Paneque i Sureda, has expressed the Government's satisfaction with the investments outlined in the final version of the 2030 Electric Plan, presented by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. This plan incorporates almost all the demands made by the Generalitat in its allegations, following dialogue with stakeholders and thorough technical analysis.
Minister Paneque described the plan as "historic" for advancing decarbonization and an electrified system powered by renewable sources. She highlighted that available capacity will multiply exponentially, marking a turning point for the region.
The projects in the Girona region include the expansion of the Bescanó 400 kV substation to ensure power for the new Health Campus of the Girona Health Region. This complex, which will house the new Josep Trueta Hospital, university facilities, and a health industry 'hub', will require 94 MW upon full development.
Furthermore, the Santa Llogaia 400 kV substation will be expanded to secure power for the Muga desalination plant. This measure will also enhance the capacity and reliability of the electricity supply in the Girona demarcation.
The plan also includes the Farners-Riudarenes 220 kV line and a new substation in Riudarenes. This infrastructure will strengthen the supply to the southern Costa Brava and northern Maresme, serve the high-speed rail corridor, and meet new demand in the area.
The 2030 Electric Plan defines the development of the electricity transport network to meet the needs of the entire State. With the Generalitat's allegations incorporated, Catalonia's network will be capable of addressing industrial and residential demand, as well as the energy transition and decarbonization goals.
Nationally, the plan includes actions for the Clínic-UB Campus in Barcelona, the electrification of the petrochemical complex in Tarragona, the Torreblanca-Quatre Pilans industrial sector in Lleida, the industrialization of Central Catalonia, water transition initiatives, and improvements to the resilience of the overall electricity system.
