A new book, recently presented in Girona, highlights the career of Manel Roqueta, a lawyer and artist who documented the daily life of the city in the first half of the 20th century.
The publication, titled Manel Roqueta i el seu temps (1888–1949), has been edited by Documenta Universitaria and features Rosa Maria Roqueta, the artist's niece, as editor. This initiative is part of an effort to publicize her uncle's life and work, which also included an exhibition in the autumn of 2024.

"The exhibition and this book have a dual purpose. On the one hand, to reclaim the figure of Manel Roqueta (1888–1949) as a citizen of Girona, lawyer and artist, and to place him in the cultural context of the first half of the 20th century. On the other hand, to recall some key moments of his career."
The volume not only reviews Manel Roqueta's biography and his professional and artistic activity but also offers a glimpse into life in Girona during that era, from the cultural effervescence of the early 20th century to the impact of the Civil War. Additionally, it includes studies and journalistic articles about the artist and the exhibition dedicated to him, signed by various authors such as Lluïsa Faxedas, Lluís Esteve Casellas, Jordi Falgàs, David Iglésias Franch, Francesc Cayuela, Joan Boadas, Lluís Bosch Martí, Alfons Petit, Jordi Grau, Miquel Costa Perich, Toni Iglésies Trias, Anaïs Iglésies Masferrer, and Josep Maria Fonalleras.
During the presentation at the Arxiu Municipal de Girona, Rosa Maria Roqueta emphasized Manel Roqueta's intense artistic activity, despite his professional dedication as a lawyer and general secretary of the Cambra de la Propietat Urbana de Girona. Art historian Lluïsa Faxedas and the head of the document management service of the Girona City Council, Lluís Esteve Casellas, also spoke to praise the research work and the book's editing.

"Manel did not live from art, but art gave him life."
