Former President Carles Puigdemont described the Court of Justice of the European Union ruling in Brussels as a "very hard slap" to the European Parliament for annulling the suspension of his immunity in 2021.

The leader of Junts, Carles Puigdemont, assessed the CJEU decision that annuls the suspension of his immunity, along with Toni Comín and Clara Ponsatí, approved by the European Parliament in 2021. According to Puigdemont, the ruling is of "great transcendence" and "blocks the path of those who wanted to make political use" of the European institution.

"It is a defeat for the authoritarians who conspired to prevent the three Junts MEPs from being able to defend themselves."

From Brussels, the former president stressed that the immunity suspension process was "politically motivated" and carried out with a "clear lack of impartiality." He demanded explanations from the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, regarding her role in the process, as the lifting of immunity caused them irreparable "damages."
The CJEU specifically questioned the impartiality of the rapporteur for the requests, as they belonged to the same political group as Vox. Puigdemont insisted that "Appointing a person who participated in a Vox event and shouted 'Puigdemont to prison' as rapporteur is a disgrace."
