The postponement occurred after the Andalusian club, Sevilla FC, requested the suspension to prevent risks for fans traveling to the Sánchez Pizjuán stadium, especially those coming from outside the city of Seville.
Initially, LaLiga was reluctant to postpone the match, as the warning was an orange alert, not red, and deferred the decision to the Subdelegación del Gobierno (Government Subdelegation). This body recommended the suspension, but it was ultimately the Junta de Andalucía (Andalusian Regional Government) that gave the final approval minutes later.
The suspension was requested to avoid risk for fans when traveling to the stadium, especially those from outside the city.
There are already precedents this season for suspensions due to similar reasons, such as the Atlético de Madrid-Sevilla match in September. A new date must now be set, which could be as early as tomorrow, since the weather alert ends this morning, or a weekday later, considering that neither Girona nor Sevilla are competing in other tournaments.
