The incident began around 3:30 AM when a Mossos d'Esquadra patrol driving through Salt spotted a suspicious vehicle that abruptly changed direction and attempted to flee upon noticing the police presence. Officers initiated a pursuit that ended with the interception of the car in front of the police station shared with the Policia Local, on Pla de Salt street.
During the chase, officers tried to verify the license plate but found it was manipulated, with painted parts intended to hinder identification. Once the vehicle was stopped, the Mossos identified the occupants, two men aged 31 and 21, both having prior police records.
A machete was found under the driver's seat and, in a fanny pack, a revolver with cartridges, in addition to balaclavas and gloves.
The search of the vehicle revealed the presence of a machete, a loaded revolver, and several objects allegedly related to robberies, such as balaclavas, gloves, pliers, a flat screwdriver, a wrench, and a mechanical jack. The 31-year-old man was charged with illegal possession of weapons, while the 21-year-old was charged with illegal possession of weapons and falsification of a public document. The Mossos d'Esquadra Investigation Unit has opened proceedings to determine if the detainees were involved in any other criminal activities.
