The European Heritage Days, an initiative by the Council of Europe held on October 9, 10, and 11, focused this year on "Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine". In Cabrils, the Civic Centre, a former textile factory reimagined as a cultural hub, served as the venue for the activities.
The event began with a family-friendly giant-building workshop that was very well-attended. Simultaneously, in the smaller hall, Tere, Maravillas, Mª Angels, and Carme, who initiated the creation of the old giants over 40 years ago, shared the story behind these figures, their origins, and the names they represent. Following this, Amadeu Carbó, a cultural manager and folklorist, provided a historical overview of giants in the region's history, dating back over six centuries.
To conclude the event, the Old Giants of Cabrils paraded through the town's central streets. After their final dance, Cristòfol and Helena were bid farewell at the Town Hall entrance by the Colla Gegantera de Cabrils (Cabrils' Giant Group) and local children. They are expected to return with a renewed appearance for the next Santa Creu Major Festival.
