The conductor Gemma Sancho has been officially presented as the new musical director for the Missa de Glòria by Mossèn Blanch for the 2026 edition in Mataró.

The Governing Board of the Mass confirmed the appointment of Gemma Sancho, who takes over from Gabriel Miralles. This transition marks a new chapter for the traditional event held every July 27th at the Basilica of Santa Maria. Sancho is the second woman to hold this position in the history of the event.

"It is an honor to pass the baton to you."

Sancho, a respected music educator and former director of Coral La Nota, plans to prioritize the choir's vocal comfort. Given the demanding nature of the piece, she intends to implement minor changes and potentially omit certain sections to ensure a smooth performance from start to finish.
Rehearsals are scheduled to begin in May, focusing on vocal sections to support new members. By June, the preparations will move to the Basilica of Santa Maria to finalize the musical arrangements for the city's most significant cultural celebration.
